Randy F. Huffines, DDS, FRCSEd

Dr. Randy Huffines is one of only a handful of practicing clinicians in the United States who has completed a two-year postdoctoral Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry. For the past 33 years, he has primarily treated older and medically complex adults in a traditional private practice, in hospitals, and in nursing homes. As a frequent conference speaker, he is known for his ability to take complex oral health issues and translate them into easy-to-understand concepts and practical techniques the entire dental team can use immediately with their patients. He is a Past President and a Fellow of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, and Diplomate of the American Board Special Care Dentistry. Dr. Huffines is a Fellow and an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1996 Dr. Huffines became the first Chair of the American National Standards Institute Task Force that became the American Dental Association’s Standards Committee on Dental Informatics. In 2004 he was appointed to the American Dental Association's Elder Care Task Force. He has served on the Editorial Board of 2 major dental drug references. Dr. Huffines was the originator of the American Dental Association’s Preventive Office of the Year Award. Randy holds faculty appointments in colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences. In spite of these responsibilities, Dr. Huffines spends most of his workweek providing comprehensive dental care to older and medically complex patients. This extensive practical experience is evident throughout his courses as he illustrates concepts with the patients he has personally treated.
